Treating your dog BEFORE or AFTER the bark?

@amarekanne It really doesn't matter. Aim for before, but your goal is to associate the cause of the bark with good things, so the bark is entirely irrelevant to what your goal would be.

Just ranting about my Petco trainer

@jbob1724 APDT doesn't test their trainers. CCPDT does.

Please, I beg of you, RESEARCH your dog trainer before just going to the cheapest place or the ‘highest reviewed’ place

@mim4you For the sake of argument, how do you find a reputable trainer if not reviews? While you've stated what not to do, how do you find one? There's another one in Texas that is similar to this, the trainer said it was aggression. He's operating again and had no charges.

    JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION

@imagebeastmarkbeast You're in a sub where people will occasionally suggest biting a dog's ear to assert dominance. Of course people are going to confirm. You could always try dropping the lingo and phrase it as a question.

    Caving to society “norms”

@gnobody I'd be concerned once it gets warmer. It can be deadly to leave a dog in a car if it's too hot.

So are we LIMA or are we “bALaNceD”?

@christopherb As a note, puppy101 does not remove mentions of r/reactivedogs on our sub. I have removed one and only because the person also added that they weren't allowed to promote aversive tools on puppy but could on reactivedogs.

    Puppy raising x 9-5

@rcetc That's not true per veterinary behaviorists. And, nobody says don't leave them alone, just don't shove them into a situation that they're panicked and leave them there.

“It’s cruel to walk your dog in [this -20°C windchill]!”

@papajoefreeman I'd be more worried about you than the dog. How are your toes?

Bully sticks…yay or nay? Vet says nay after x-rays.

    @sweetjane4ya Clear your (mental) cache.

    Update!

@southernrunner In all fairness, they do. A few of their team helped me with my PTSD dog. They're among the people who I feel I could get reliable and relevant help from and they're very compassionate people. What reality do you suppose they're missing?

Bully sticks…yay or nay? Vet says nay after x-rays.

@radioactive7 I don't give my dogs bully sticks, but not due to blockages. They're fully digestible from my knowledge and every vet seems to have a different stance on it. It's weird to say they're bone-like. I don't believe bully sticks have a bone in it. They're literally a penis muscle from a...

    C.E.T. Enzymatic Chews?

@wandalouise Rawhide is digestible. Those look good to me.

    Caving to society “norms”

@kaykay8 I'm confused how they leave their dog for 8-10 hours while living in a car. Then again, I don't want to know.

    2 y/o GSD/ Cattle Dog non-stop crate barking

@notw530 More importantly, you should return before there's cries. Keeping it at a set random time risks leaving the puppy in a state of stress which we don't allow here.

6month old doodle got into my weed gummies vet bill 3500-4500

@jennifer1990 Sometimes it's not about winning, but getting the care you need when you need it without needing thousands in your savings account.

    Puppy raising x 9-5

@mfhorn Separation-related stress is another reason that people tend to frown upon leaving puppies alone.

    Caving to society “norms”

@taradawn I think I misread something somewhere. I swear I saw they got a doodle for $500 LOL.

    Does it EVER get better?

@samuel4christ IAABC accredited professionals largely do virtual, and they are specialized in behavior problems like this. What happens if she can't see you? Things like crate covers?

r/dogs should join other major subreddit in a blackout protesting Reddit's upcoming API changes. What do you think?

@kamm I use the first party app for modding so I don't mod from bed or while I'm out and about much because it's that punitive. Another thing: The app isn't disability-friendly. Those who rely on screen readers such as those users and mods at r/blind will no longer be able to use Reddit at all.

need assurance-13 month old going to chill out eventually?!?

@larsonmcl Well, the thing with overstimulation is, it's dog-specific. If your dog is overstimulated, then there are triggers that may need to be avoided. Honestly, based on this, you may actually be doing too much, which is leading to arousal. What happens if you skip daycare or the dog park...
