@scourge It's not insane. A normal dog will not scream for hours even with the typical cry it out method. What the dog is doing is very extreme and not something that a normal dog will do. Being in charge won't help a dog who is literally scared or anxious.

@tifani Breed matters a bit more than the formula. If you know the lineage of your labrador that's even better. It's why in mixed dogs (doodles, maltipoo, pitsky, insert whatever mix name there is out there) a litter can have tiny dogs and HUGE dogs. Genetics can be a real wild card.

@nomoreexcuses24 Sounds like a clinical case. I would highly suggest speaking to your vet about medication that can help calm him down and also look at the book "Be right back" by Julie Niasmith. When it's clinical like this no training can really happen because the dog is in fight or flight mode.

@aegistoronto I know it can happen! It can be hard but there are ways around it and also learning how to roll with the punches. You're keeping yourself and your dog safe and that's all that matters.

@lisaomo I love training GSDs, goldens, and mals. Just it wouldn’t impress me as much as a trainer who has a harder to train dog. I probably will never own an English bulldog or Newfie because it’s not my style/kind of dog.

@jopra They are but also they're only really used because of their size and often for mobility. Out of many of the common breeds they are one of the hardest to train compared to a GSD, lab, or golden.
