What happens if you mix a breed with fur and a breed with hair?

@crs_7 Any breed mix can get weird coats. I've got a GSD/basset hound mix. He has a broad strip down his back that's thick GSD fur, and the rest of him has smooth fur like a basset. When he goes into shed, the GSD strip of fur goes crazy and blows its coat while the rest of him sheds lightly. It's been fun seeing his coat develop. I'm just happy only a very small part of him sheds like a GSD, lol.

@milz777 I have a half pit half German shepherd, husky, malamute. For the most part he has the pit coat type but he seems to have undercoar on his hips and right by his butt and on his tail. Those are the only spots he blows any coat lol

@crs_7 We had a mix of husky (which blows it’s undercoat once or twice a year) and pit bull (sheds small amounts constantly), and what we got was a husky-sized undercoat that sheds constantly…

@crs_7 Also just so you know the fur and hair thing is a misnomer. It’s all fur and it’s all hair. They’re actually the same thing, we just called it fur on animals and hair on people. It’s just a single and double coat. Someone started calling it hair on non-shedding breeds, but they are actually the exact same thing. This is my biggest pet peeve lol.

@crs_7 I'm not a groomer but I've got a Poodle x Aussie Shephard x English Sheepdog and his coat is a hot mess. Like, just shave his ass down every 6 weeks hot mess, with a sanitary clip in between visits.

@crs_7 I've got a Bedlington Terrier cross Cocker Spaniel.

He has soft, fluffy curls on the top of his head, silky, spaniel ears. Coat looks like schnauzer.
I got him when he was 7 months old, his owner was bored with him. He had matting on his chin, round his bits. I brush him regularly, get both soft and long hair out. Not much, compared with our gsd.

@crs_7 Mixing any dogs produces wild results, even if they all come from the same coat family. This is why it takes many years of careful selection to create a new purebred.

I got my pom mix from someone trying to more "ethically" create pomskies, and she didn't want to just breed Alaskan Klee Kais because the creator of those inbred too much and they already have a lot of health issues. She's basically trying to create a dog that looks cool and primal and wolf-like, but is only about 20lbs and much lower maintenance to care for and purely a companion dog. She's also aiming for more trainable than what most people imagine the spitz breeds to be like.

My dog was gen 1 so he is just a general mutt. He is a mix of klee kai, pomeranian, husky, and shiba inu. He looks SO different from his parents and siblings. Both his siblings have a short, dense double coat. My dog decided he really wants to be a pomeranian and has a wildly long coat, but it isn't fine textured and voluminous like a pomeranian. His topcoat is quite coarse and his whole coat lays flat. Idk what the fuck went on with his tail because the fur on his tail is about a foot long, which is waaaaay longer than the tail fur of any of those breeds.
