Behavioral change in 4 y.o. Dog

My moms precious little girl has been acting out lately. She’s about 4 years old, and been in the home for a little over 3 years after being rescued. In the last month, she’s started nipping at us for seemingly no reason, which has never been the case before. She doesn’t seem to be as playful as she used to be. She’ll come up to snuggle, but a minute later will bite when you when you pet her. So she’s sending some seriously mixed signals. She’s eating normally and very food motivated and doesn’t appear to be in any pain.
They adopted a puppy about 3 months ago, so my only guess to this sudden change is stress because of the new puppy energy in the home. She does like to play with him but not as much as he wants to with her. It’s breaking my moms heart that she can’t love on her dog like she used to. Any advice?
