Flying with my 16 lb dog on Delta Airlines

My dog is taking his first flight with me at the age of 11 months. He just hits 16 lbs and is a short little man. I just got my carrier in the mail and it's slightly larger than the dimensions suggested on Delta's site. It is a soft bag and my dog can spin circles and stand up straight in it.

Our Bag Dimensions: 20"L x 13"W x 13"H

Delta's Dimensions: 18”L x 11”W x 11”H

1. Does anyone know if they will turn me away??
2. I have a backpack that is a lot smaller than Delta dimensions, but is less comfortable for him. Should I bring this to the airport just incase they turn me away?
3. Any other tips for traveling with a slightly anxious dog?
