I wish we had a tag that said, “doodles, amirite?”

@roldfox My neighbor had a Mini Aussie...took all I could do not to compliment him on his Pomeranian/Sheltie Mix With A Docked Tail.

Today a woman made a complaint about me

@snorks4lyfe She was trying to get a free groom. You not only did your job, you were kind to the dog, and that's the main thing.

I think I offended the breeder I was most interested in. Should I try to fix things or move on?

@lukeh I don't know if you read my reply to your previous post, but the more I think on it, the better my advice was. Essentially, pick a breeder you feel comfortable with, forget those annoying puppies and look for an adult (among other benefits, no waiting list, no deposits). KNOW YOUR VALUE...

    Getting Started as a Breeder

@jwfletch I'm glad. I wish more people would care this deeply. There is a TON you can do to enjoy time with your dog and learn all about the breed (including its history and its future direction) without breeding. You can learn from experts and make informed decisions. Plus it's fun!

    Question regarding newborns etc

@themrsbeth Best wishes for mom and puppies...and you! After all dust has settled please give an update- this sub often has questions from people wanting to breed their family dog, and it'd be good to have the perspective of someone who's been through it...we often say, "what if she needs a...

    Noise complaints

@xekuter White noise machine. The one I have is called Dohm. You might need an extra-powerful one. I live in an apartment and all day long my ceiling sounds like my upstairs neighbor has a toddler and a German Shepard running all over the place in zigzag patterns. Because they do. With the...

    Getting Started as a Breeder

@jwfletch What's your main motivation? That'll help you figure out if the whole thing is going to be more trouble than it's worth! If you mainly want to breed in order to get a puppy to keep that's as nice as your own dog and has similar qualities, consider getting another from your dog's...

    Inbreeding

@eltucan Inbreeding does not introduce any new traits; it merely shrinks the gene pool. Basically, you get more of what you have. Breed 2 closely-related dogs with inherited defects in common to pass on, and you get puppies with those inherited defects. If there's something back there, it's...

Titling an older male? How much? Wise to consider breeding with him or not?

@thecurious A good handler will tell you if it's hopeless, too!

How did you learn/get into dog breeding?

PS it sounds like you are really interested in the theory stuff, and you can go deep, deep into that, and breed history, and research on current dogs, and planning for a very long time without actually breeding any dogs. And that's what I'd recommend doing first.

@ionut7 Try turning off the heating pad I recommended and see if it helps. : )

How did you learn/get into dog breeding?

@keish62 It sucks if you do it right. I took forever to find the best homes I could, but still worried about the puppies I'd placed until they died of old age. A dog lives longer than the average marriage. One thing that isn't talked about enough is that you risk your dog's life by breeding...

    Breeding

@kyachu No. No way to guarantee. But lots of ways to make it less likely, starting with choosing good owners and emphasizing that if they ever can't keep the dog, you want it back.

    Newborn Puppy Questions

@ionut7 Right! I set mine up so that she could move away if she wanted...as long as the puppies are near mom, they're ok...it's if they squirm away and she doesn't get them. But my dog had a lot more than 4 puppies to keep track of, so it might not be an issue...just something people don't...

    Newborn Puppy Questions

@ionut7 Check what the best temperature is for them and get a cheap thermometer to go with your heating pad. The temperature settings are not always accurate.

    Newborn Puppy Questions

@kurat Definitely use caution. Make sure there are no drafts and that their mom is keeping them close. Some are better than others.
