Super Reactive in House, getting worse

@chinyereukoha I don't have any advice but hope you'll get some suggestions. I find sound reactivity difficult since it's hard to manage compared to visual, which can just be blocked when needed. So he stops barking when you redirect his attention? But his barking overall is increasing?

    eCollars Save Lives

@jopra That's a different dog. I'm talking about the one she sold video of raising on the High Drive Dog...his name was Dice, I just looked it up.

Getting puppy to chill the F out?

@the_journey Use a leash in the house. Sit on the leash or tie the leash to something.

@jopra Isn't Fenzi the one that returned her Terv to the breeder when she couldn't handle it?

Own 2 dogs at the same time, for the first time in my life. Struggling to navigate the situation

@liturgynerd More practice with both dogs being calm around each other before they're loose in the house. Use tethers or bed stays. Practice taking turns. You pet one dog in their space, then go over to the other dog and pet them in their space. You decide when to give attention and...

Getting puppy to chill the F out?

@dumbfounded Naw, all dogs can learn to chill tf out in the house after getting appropriate mental and physical exercise. I guarantee hunters with working gun dogs aren't tolerating their Weims nipping, stealing, and chewing in the house when they aren't hunting.

Which of these 2 online courses is right for me?

@hopeinnyc I have not taken his course, so I'm sure I can't tell you "the exact way" he does it, but I can tell you the ways I've learned: meeting the dog, ie you don't approach the dog head on but you go meet him on his line of travel. Maybe with a long line to prevent the dog from running...

    help with bite inhibition!!

@justanothername When is the biting happening? At that age I keep puppies mostly in a pen or other puppy proofed area unless I am actively working with them. That might be playing with me with a toy, or practicing obedience/tricks, or practicing relaxation type behaviors (eg, bed stay...

Which of these 2 online courses is right for me?

@hopeinnyc Upvoted because I appreciate the effort to list the specific things you've learned. I disagree that any of that is new or unique to Ivan since I've learned similar from a couple local dog trainers, neither of which is "certified" by Ivan. I have never once seen popping or pulling the...

Could a (vibrating and/or beeping) e-collar be used for positive reinforcement, similar to a clicker?

@johnc101 Have you read the reason WHY it is helpful? It's not because you can pair it with rewards (though you should), you can do that with a verbal cue or a whistle. It is because you can negatively reinforce, ie correct, the dog at a distance.

Can barking be mostly trained out of a naturally vocal breed? And should it be?

@johny111 How vocal an individual is varies even within vocal breeds. If you're set on a papillon, I'd look for an adult dog that is relatively quiet rather than getting a puppy and hoping for the best. In my experience you can train dogs not to bark at specific things, and you can train them...

    Tyler Muto’s E-Collar course?

@epassenglish Purchased, you would have to look at what is included with the membership bc I think it wasn’t. But that was also years ago.

    Tyler Muto’s E-Collar course?

@epassenglish Yes, I fully recommend it. If I had gotten the Tyler Muto course first I wouldn't have bought any others. It shows several different dogs working through each step.

Herm Sprengrr 3.0 short or regular link?

@ryryxd2221111 Yeah that’s the part I agree with. Smaller gauge means sharper pressure. The comment I replied to said, I believe, that more links also mean more pressure (3mm vs 3mm short link) and I’m not sure about that.

Having trouble finding working e collar level

@pamelamarie89 It's a contact issue. General guideline for fitting e collars is they should be tighter than you think.

Herm Sprengrr 3.0 short or regular link?

@danmat777 Is it true? Like if I'm lying on a bed of nails I want more nails not less right? I don't know that I've ever directly compare the 3.0 and 3.0 short link, but definitely find dogs are less sensitive to the 3.0 than the 2.25.
  17. C

Herm Sprengrr 3.0 short or regular link?

@charids13 They aren't really, as a heads up. The reason dogs are more sensitive to the 2.25 is the smaller gauge means the ends are "pointy-er," not because there are more links. The fit thing is what matters to me.
  18. C

Herm Sprengrr 3.0 short or regular link?

@charids13 Common with the 2.25. They get bent over time when using them on large dogs, and seems like the black ones especially pop off. You can either bend them back into shape with pliers or replace any bent links, and add additional as needed to fit. Or size up to the 3.0. I like the short...

    eCollars Save Lives

@princesstatyanna So...the trainers I know that use e collars wouldn't even start with the e collar in the first five days. Nor would I. that would be all positive reinforcement. I wonder how the results would change given a sane amount of training time.

    E-collar correction

@daniel1990 I use crates and gates with young and new dogs because they are a great preventive for this kind of thing. But if you have an established problem behavior, I don't think it's so obvious that 10-15 years of being shut away is better than a few well timed corrections.
