Help/Advice needed

We’ve recently taken in a pup from a relative and what we know is:
Shes a short leg Jack Russell
about 4-5 months old (vet estimated 24 weeks)
after weaning she was kept in a shed with 2-3 20min breaks in the garden/day. Until 2 days before collection she was with at least 1 littermate but then they were taken away and she was crying/whining/barking continuously.
no training was attempted.
parvo vaccine was administered by the relative.

What we’ve done:
Puppy now has a name!
She’s registered with the vet, chipped and had her first shots (second set due EoJ)
We’re beginning to teach her basic commands and manners
We’re crate training her

Advice we’d like:

Crate training is going well, at night she whines for a few mins after being put in her crate (this is the crate https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/pets-at-home-single-door-dog-crate-small-black-7127085p--1) – if she’s put in while we’re in the same room she whines, cries and barks – Is this separation anxiety? do you have any advice on how to stop this?
Toilet training is going ok and she does most of it outside, and never in the crate. However she does occasionally pee when loose in the house, we worry this may be an attention seeking act as we react when it happens. Advice on lowering this would be very useful?
As she isn’t fully vaccinated yet, walking out in the world is a problem as our garden is tiny, we’re attempting to train her to loose lead walk but find shes very easily distracted and the treats we’ve bought so far don’t seem to hold her attention, could you offer advice on how to improve this?
We’ve been trying to teach her to lie down but as she’s so small and uninterested in the treats we have she doesn’t come to the ground, just bows her head while sitting or stands and lowers her head to the floor. Advice on tailoring these things to smaller dog would be great?

Any other advice you have would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Fully ignore her accidents. Even don't mention them, just casually clean it up.
  • You can walk out with her on a leash, just avoid other dogs. If someone approaches you with a dog just walk off and yell that you'd love to meet them in a few weeks but that you're waiting for vaccines. Worked for me but might depend on your neighbours lol.
  • If she's not interested, those aren't treats. Get better treats! Something with a strong smell to grab her attention, and maybe even several types. We had some nasty dried fish stuff that worked like a charm. That will also help with her accidents, because then you can really give her a nice treat when she goes properly outside.
edit: Oh and whining in the crate while you are in the room is generally just puppy theater because they are bored. Pretty hard to ignore but you can do it!
