Hey all, so I’ve been training my collie(she’s nearly 6 months) I’m a first time owner and have a few questions :)

I’ve been using treats to train obedience and discipline and using the cue ‘yess’ once she’s done the correct behaviour she loves it and knows exactly what it means but I’m trying to wean her off the treats, is it fair to still use the word ‘yes’ and not give a treat every time? She doesn’t mind...

It’s over, i’m not the favorite

i’ve posted about this before and some people made mean comments if you’re thinking about doing it, please don’t context: i’ve been dealing poorly with depression, ADHD, anxiety and insomnia for a few months my husband is the best person in earth, just a ray of sunshine and the best person i...

    Weird cut/graze?

N.b. Got a vet appointment booked on the 30th Pup has these weird grazes on his leg. The fresh one looks like a normal graze but the other one has little black bits on it which I'm worried about. Any ideas? https://postimg.cc/QVWJJLpV https://postimg.cc/gX1qb4PY

A recipe for treats (I made over 1000 just now, super easy and quick!)

There was a post by /@wildatheart41 which I commented on here, talking about how I made baby food, cream of wheat, and milk powder treats. I just made a batch in the pyramid trays I was talking about and it's a success! 1018 treats -- 509 per batch -- in about 40 minutes (and I go kinda slow)...

Is Royal Canin worth the price tag?

I have a 4 month Frenchton and I’ve had him on Royal Canin since the day I got him. I did a lot of research before I got him and ultimately it seemed like Royal Canin was the superior brand and was best for puppies. Anyway, I go to a local pet store and they asked what food I have him on, they...

[X-post from /r/dogs] Is this normal for a 3.5-month old puppy? (Fear, Biting, etc)

Okay, so I'm starting to get concerned. We adopted a rescue about a month ago, and have been working hard to socialize him. I'm starting to get scared that we may have overplayed our hand. He is suddenly scared of a lot of things that did not use to be scary. Air conditioners on the street can...

    Separation anxiety

Hi all - could use some advice/thoughts on managing what I think is separation anxiety. We have a 17 week old mini dachshund, and it has been a struggle! Potty training is a disaster, especially b/c I have my teen daughter watching him while I am working, and she's not as diligent about...

14 week old german shepherd X collie won’t sleep

I started off doing a 5-day sleep challenge thing from my local dog trainers and it seemed to work. Part of this training was one hour awake one hour asleep for a couple days and then gradually increase this time…has others used this method before? I’m at a stage where she is awake for an hour...

    Y'all... I messed up

I tagged this Wags because I sort of got what I wanted, but I think y'all will get a kick out of my mistake. I never wanted my dog to play keep away, so if he got ahold of something unknown or questionable I would put on a really excited tone of voice and ask "what did you find?" Then I'd hold...

Crate training + new to our house - sleep in with dog or not?

I've read conflicting advice regarding sleeping in the same room as the pup and crate when they first arrive. Most advice is night-time crying stops within 5 days but other sources note it's cruel to ignore them during the night, so sleep in with them i.e same room. After that first adjustment...

    It Gets Better!

In September we adopted a rescue pup - we suspect she might be a flat coated retriever (based off her uh, “youthful” personality and that she looks like a black golden retriever). She was 12 weeks old. Immediately I got slammed by puppy blues. I was exhausted, waking up in the middle of the...

Things my teenage pup has barked/whined about in the last 24 hours

His frozen toppl was inside his (open) crate and he had to go inside to get it. I didn’t give him the box my Amazon order came in. He had to wait 5 seconds for me to pick up his poop before we continued our walk. I threw his toy for him to retrieve and he didn’t want to. He dropped his bully...

Puppy Schedule - looking for some advice!

Hi All, My husband and I are getting a puppy in the next month and I am trying to nail down a schedule now. It will be my first dog, but not my husband's. He grew up with dogs and has had them his whole life. I work full time during the day & my husband works full time at night, meaning he...

    My puppy's milk canines

Today my 29 week old puppy had surgery to remove her upper milk canines since they were g wiggly at all and her adult ones had come out. They gave me her teeth back and tell me why are they SO LONG. The root is massive, no wonder they didn't fall off on their own xD I'm amazed a 3,5kg Maltese...

Can’t leave my 8 month old puppy alone

My dog is absolutely attached to me. At my feet constantly and if I put him in a room alone he will go ballistic and scratch at the door and bark until I return. He can’t be left at home alone, he will bark the entire time. Is 8 months too late to train this out of him? Any tips? It’s keeping me...

    My puppy's arsenal of chews

Just a fun post listing all the things my puppy has gotten as chews and their ratings. Does not include things that were not meant to be chewed like cables, clothes, my hair, etc. Feel free to post what your puppy likes to chew on, I'm always on the lookout for more! For context my puppy is a...

Incident at dog park - feeling awful

Our 15 week old Jack Russell (female) got too close to an apple that another dog (~2 yo, berner senner-like but don’t know) was chewing on, and got told of. She got a little scared of course, but didn’t seem terrified, said hello to another dog that came afterwards and didn’t even seem too...

Puppy growling and doing a "boof" bark at the T.V

We just got a 8 week old puppy a few days ago. She's a lab, on the smaller side, still shy outside, loves her toys, is relaxed in her crate and loves to plop down for cuddles in our lap. She has also been doing good with training. Just now I was watching a dog training video that showed a dog...

Those of you with full-time jobs out of the home - how do you do it?

I personally work from home and I cannot imagine how I would do it if I had a full-time job eight hours a day plus commute. What do you do with the puppy if you don’t have anybody else to watch them? You can’t possibly leave them in a crate 10 hours a day. How do U do potty training? Even if you...
