dog food

I see people always saying kibbles n bits is garbage dog food but I had a dog live a long happy life for 16 yrs eating ONLY kibbles n bits ! I now have new dogs and feed them KNB and they seem to be happy and healthy as well . Why so much controversy?

Can I add anything in the Rx dog food that won't negate the purpose of the dog food? My dog hates this Rx food and has seemingly gone on a hunger strike instead of eating this. Ultimately looking to keep urine pH low. And urine output high.
