Open Farm - Salmon and Ancient Grains ; Opinions?

@bassplayer72 So first of all I would go with a food that is fully WSAVA compliant. Unfortunately, Open Farm is not because they don’t do feeding trials… Purina Pro-Plan and Purina One are cheaper than Royal Canin, and are backed by research. Second is that a lot of at home dog allergy tests are...

Mitral valve disease in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels

@lady_pritimah The Finnish Kennel Club is doing an outcross project for Cavies. They only have a few litters on the ground can’t remember what all is involved but I know one of them is the Danish Swedish Farmdog. Found a link that has more details. From this press release it does look like...

    Best options for dog food

@robrandazzo Science Diet is a very good food. I will say that you have a very high octane puppy though! I have always kept my Belgian Shepherds (very closely related to Dutchies) on Purina ProPlan because it is high calorie. Young energetic herding dogs can be hard to keep weight on and...

    Support for false pregnancy

@lupuswarrior My girl did this after her first heat. I let her do as she wanted. She didn’t have enlarged mammary glands though…. I would check with the vet on that. Let her nest and care for her ‘babies’ as she wants though.

    Rescue puppy food recommendation

@cooldude12344 Talk to the vet. I think puppies have pretty sensitive digestive systems. My girl has issues with diarrhea at that age, she was on antibiotics, prebiotics, and a prescription Science Diet food for over a month. Slowly switched her back to Pro Plan and she’s been good ever since...

    Food Vortex. Royal Canine vs...others?

@pizzaaddict Probably because Royal Canine does feeding trials and has Veterinary Nutritionists and PhDs making their food. Only the largest companies will do feeding trials because it’s costly (Royal Canine, Purina, Science Diet, Eukanuba). First Mate doesn’t have a veterinary nutritionist or...

If you had to choose one of these foods, what would you choose?

@artemis153 You might need to go to the vet and set up an elimination diet for dog #2. That’s really the only way to figure out allergies unfortunately. You’d end up feeding a prescription diet and after several weeks add in potential allergens one at a time. If dog #2 can’t get to dog #1’s food...
