1 year old (as of literally today) puppy just had her first heat, now my males are interested in her again?

@sqs1 I would have her checked by your vet, boys can smell a uti or vaginitis and be interested in a female. Also diapers on your male will NOT prevent an accidental breeding.

    English Bulldog Second Heat Cycle

@timotheusq While most females cycle every six months every cycle is different. With her only having one previous cycle it's impossible to know if this is just her normal or if she's truly late coming in.

Dog gave birth to a still born an hour ago and hasn’t delivered any others yet should I be concerned

@gusbus It's very much dependent on how many pups the bitch is carrying. Do you know how many pups she expecting? Knowing mom is a brachy breed mix this isn't one I would wait and see with, things can get very bad very fast.

Is it normal for a prospective pup purchaser to ask to speak to the breeders vet?

@jtanurdjaja I think there is a miscommunication here, I often find that families read some article on a Google search "what makes a breeder reputable" and folks take it as the gospel. I'm going to say it's a yellow flag, I can see why they wouldn't want a family contacting their personal vet...

    Question regarding newborns etc

@themrsbeth A mother's temp always runs a bit higher after she whelps so don't worry about her being too warm unless she's visibly having issues. It's far more important to keep the pups warm enough. Myra Saavant Harris has a recipe for mothers pudding that is helpful with milk production and as...

    Question regarding newborns etc

@themrsbeth Milk production is based off of supply and demand. By you supplementing the pups they aren't suckling on her enough. Milk production can also be delayed due to the c section. Get a kitchen scale and weigh your pups morning and night to track their growth. Bottle feeding can cause...

Who owes these puppies, our female - no breeder contract

@zsevers These types of situations are hard on everyone involved. I'm assuming you are what's considered a guardian home and you co-own your girl with her breeder. It's stressful for the dam to be in a new environment and have her pups and it's hard on the owner being away from their beloved...

Do you get people asking for a reduced price because they have to drive to get a puppy from you?

@sqs1 I'm in Colorado and have pups literally all over the country and nobody has ever wanted a discount because they traveled to me. It's crazy, puppy buyers so often think WE owe them something. What they don't understand is that we aren't obligated to sell our pups to anyone. When you...

Who owes these puppies, our female - no breeder contract

@zsevers Visiting her frequently may be harder on her than not seeing you. How old are her pups?

    Question for breeders

@beaub There are several red flags here but to give you an honest opinion we need more information. What breed, what health testing has been done, three weeks old is very young to start making picks, do they have a behaviorist involved.

    Vent 😀

@mathteacher Don't kid yourself bitch britches and belly bands are NOT "protection". They do not stop or prevent two animals from breeding. The only way to prevent unwanted litters is keeping the two dogs completely apart. If your bf's mom's bitch is in season there is absolutely no reason to...

    Excessive panting and whining

@tekela I have intact males and females and am beyond lucky to have a good friend with a boarding facility five minutes from my house. Lots of times I will take my boys over there when the girls are in season just to give them a break from the hormones! Some boys handle it better than others...

    I’m an accidental breeder

@mitchell The tums will work for today! Whelping and puppy rearing isn't for the faint of heart that's for sure! You have gotten some really great advice so far and please don't hesitate to ask more as you go! I don't think it's been brought up yet but you may also want to give momma a...

    I’m an accidental breeder

@mitchell If you have same day delivery with Amazon prime there is a product called Doc Roys Healthy Bones that is really great. It has both calcium and phosphorus that momma dogs need! If you would like me to pm you the link I can! As for the tums you can put a bit of peanut butter on them or...

    Excessive panting and whining

@tekela Your males behavior is escalating because your female is close to being fertile. As she gets closer to ovulation your males behavior will only get worse. Having them in such close proximity is driving him batty. I would highly suggest finding a boarding facility for everyone sanity. Also...

    Help gaining weight

@cosimnot Agree with above that Myra's formula is by far the best. The canned formula often lacks taurine which can cause issues as the pups get older.

    Help

@old_orthodoxyusa It sounds like you have covered your bases to prove this wasn't anything other than a behavior based incident. Depending on where you reside the laws should be on your side. You dog was on your property and an unsecured intact male came onto your property and injured your dog...

    I’m an accidental breeder

@mitchell If you have any tums at your house it would be beneficial for momma to have a few. Tums are a source of calcium and whelping and milk production can deplete the mommas calcium levels.

    Excessive panting and whining

@kijani This is not true. Females are only fertile for a short time after ovulation. It sounds like your female came in season later than you suspected or her progesterone levels were slow to rise. Most females will only stand for a male while they are fertile and not during the entire heat cycle.

    Help

@old_orthodoxyusa Did your vet confirm your dog was not in season by doing a progesterone test? Dogs can have a silent heat where they do not bleed. Another reason a male could want to mount her would be the presence of a uti or vaginitis. I would try to rule out any medical conditions that...
