Visual guide for customers showing hair lengths left by different clipper guards/blades

@boosted I purchased one of the “rug sample” things from Etsy but it’s probably similar to what Petco uses. When I show it to customers, I explain that it’s just a rough visual guide and try to tell them how I think their dogs hair will look vs the example. I personally would never volunteer...

What do doodle owners mean when they say to not look their doodle too poodle-y?

@daniel001 If someone says that to me, usually I’ll ask them if they want me to mist the dogs hair, scrunch it back up and let them dry under a cool fan for a few minutes when the groom is over because that returns some is the scruff and curl back to the coat. Sometimes it means they want more...

How are corporate groomers doing 15+ dogs a day?

@vb73 I want to try grooming sitting down sometimes to help stave off the back pain.

How are corporate groomers doing 15+ dogs a day?

@welcometothejungle89 That’s a recipe for burnout. If you plan to do this job short term to save some money and then move on, sure it’s fine I guess. However I give it just a few years before your body starts to protest doing 8-12 dogs a day; even less time for someone doing 15+.

Thinking of taking college course (x posted from r/grooming)

@renderer For me personally, learning to groom is 90% hands on practice, ideally with an experienced teacher helping you along the way. If taking the class will open doors to help you find an apprenticeship somewhere, then I think it could definitely be helpful because this can be a tough...

What customer comments made you want to literally reach across the counter and slap someone?

@imagebeastmarkbeast She was absolutely being snarky. I spend a lot of money on fabric to make them; never mind the time I put into cutting them up. The polite thing to do would have been to tell me she doesn’t want a bandana doing forward.

Help on removing seeds from a cocker spaniel coat

@byrightpaths Just do a little bit each day so she doesn’t get overwhelmed. If you have access to a velocity dryer (usually a place that offers a self washing area will have one), giving her a bath with lots of conditioner and blow drying her may help. However if you don’t have access to a dryer...

Hypermobile joints mean I can't be on my feet for more than 3 hrs - would a job dog grooming still be possible?

@theberlintall I work with a groomer who sits while she grooms but she struggles with difficult dogs way more than the rest of us do. She would have a hard time with dogs that nobody else had any issues with. She can work around it because she has a ton of experience. When you’re just starting...

Some brushing questions from an overwhelmed doodle owner

@thyda Do you bathe her yourself at home? If so, investing in a velocity dryer would do wonders for you. It’s going to do more for you than any brush or comb ever could. Yo be honest, it sounds like you would be much happier if you got your dog cut down to a more manageable length. I know you...

Helping receptionist understand appointment booking when they have zero prior grooming experience?

@reveal77 The best thing you can do is give her a reasonable list of rules to follow and then make sure that she is the one calling customers to fix an issue when there is a mistake. Scheduling is a tricky thing, especially for someone not familiar with the different breeds of dogs. She will...

E and C combs are not short!!

@lutheranandproud I’m just going to say that what is short is relative 🤷🏻‍♀️. For the average person, an E comb is long. However for someone who keeps their dog super long, in their eyes, that’s a short length. One time when I was a fairly new groomer, I had an extremely fluffy Pomeranian come...

@jaceew79 I apologize if I came across as accusatory as that wasn’t my intention at all 😊.

At a bit of a loss, really need some grooming tips/advice for my Aussie

@jaceew79 So many people use the Furminator wrong. They’re meant to be a long term solution, not something that you only pull out in the summertime when your dog is dropping their coat. When using the Furminator, set a timer on your phone for 10 minutes. When brushing, don’t go over the same...

What customer comments made you want to literally reach across the counter and slap someone?

@rushu I buy my own fabric and make bandanas myself. Most customers really love it because I pick really fun patterns and I try to never repeat fabric so everyone has fun seeing what their dog will leave with. One time a customer picked up their dog and said “wow you guys really cheap out on...

PSA: Affordable grooming shears is just drop shipping razorline's products

@imagebeastmarkbeast I bought two wide 30s from her and neither of them cut right. When I emailed customer service, they had me switch to texting instead, which was weird. Then they proceeded to have me send them photos and videos of the blades not working. Which I did. They tried to say my...

@thankfullness You won’t get a refund from AGS or Zolitta either. If you want one, you will have to FIGHT for it 🤣

What are your fav grooming clippers? (Andis, Oster, other?) Looking to invest in a good set

@s3mp3rr3formanda I know there’s so many choices and not just with clippers. I can’t tell you how many brushes, combs, sprays, scissors, etc that I’ve tried. It’s never ending 😂. At least I have my job as an excuse to test it all.

    Favorite shears

@james24essex I’m a Shark Fin girlie. They’re expensive but their customer service is fantastic and they stand by their products. They’re definitely an investment.

What are your fav grooming clippers? (Andis, Oster, other?) Looking to invest in a good set

@s3mp3rr3formanda I definitely like Andis. I have tried multiple Oster clippers and they were all awful. Wahl is great too as long as you stick with their higher end models so they’re not quite as easily accessible as Andis. Right now I’m using this one and I love it. I can’t go back to using...

    Wahl Km10 without "30 blade"?

@peble A 10 will work, it will just change the final length by a very small amount that you likely won’t even notice. Some people have said that using a 10 underneath the combs will stretch them out so when you go to use a 30 they don’t fit quite as snugly and may be more likely to fall off so I...
