    OCD corgi update n.3

@limobustruckfleet I'm so sorry about this happening to you. Irresponsible breeders are a scourge upon the earth. I think that there isn't a choice that you won't regret making. If you return her to the breeder, you'll be plagued by self-doubt and guilt. If you continue to tough it out, your...

So are we LIMA or are we “bALaNceD”?

    @eront That's good to know

Very funny take on different dog breed reactions

@monk58 That man doesn't know any corgis, lol

So are we LIMA or are we “bALaNceD”?

@autumn1123 I chimed in on one of the threads to support limited use of aversives—temporarily, in extreme cases, and only if you really, really know what you're doing. I went back just now and you're right: there was a lot of the usual pro-shock collar circle-jerking that you see elsewhere...

My dog bit my 7 year old sister

@m0majesty2021 I spend a lot of time in r/reactivedogs & the difficulty of rehoming a dog with a bite history gets brought up quite a lot. It could easily be the case that the dog in that story was "voluntarily" euthanized because the family absolutely couldn't keep the dog in the same home as...

    corgi puppy update n.2

@limobustruckfleet Ok, so I've never been exactly in this situation, but it's very similar to what I went through with my oldest (human) child. He was always a little peculiar, even as a toddler, but his odd behaviors never quite added up to a diagnosis. Now that he's in elementary school, he's...

So are we LIMA or are we “bALaNceD”?

@luketbachelder This is so weird to hear as I've dealt more with people ridiculing r/reactivedogs for how "soft" we are. I also don't spend much time in other LIMA subreddits, and thus encounter a lot more "shock collars solve everything" discussions, so I may simply be failing to notice the...

[Rant] I’m so sick of non-dog owners “educating” me about how I need to show my dog I’m the alpha and be domineering

@kaccy No problem. Rude people earn rude responses. Cesar Millan and his dominance junk might achieve "results", but it's akin to burning your house down because you have spiders. Ok, yes, the spiders are gone, but at what cost?

No reactive dog thing but I do need advice please

@erinandrew Yeah, have someone turn the dog in to the humane society. It's pitiful that the cops are holding up the "thin blue line" at the expense of a starving dog, but apparently she can't be shamed on that front.

What is the worst thing your puppy has ever done?

@inbetweendreams I hope includes the bit with a dog repeatedly and enthusiastically whacking someone with a whole fucking deer leg, LOL

No reactive dog thing but I do need advice please

@erinandrew Can you get videos/pictures of the dog's condition? If you have A's cellphone number, then strike up a few casual, friendly conversations in which you ask her to explain how she's feeding the dog, what time she finally got home from the club last night, what the vet has to say about...

[Rant] I’m so sick of non-dog owners “educating” me about how I need to show my dog I’m the alpha and be domineering

@kaccy "Scared dogs bite. You really think I ought to make a dog that can lick my face from the floor think that I'm an existential danger that'll throw down for a fight at the theft of a hat? I should fight a fucking dog. Are you stupid?" " No, I'm pretty sure I understood you. I should act...

Does it ever get better? What more could we be doing? Reaching the end of our rope

@booboo222 What about simultaneously introducing a acceptable alternative behavior when doing the correction? Sort of the way that you teach toddlers; it doesn't work to tell them "no" if they don't know a "yes." I can't think of any good examples of reactive behavior where this might apply...

    My reactive girl died yesterday

@cynthiak She sounds like she had a wonderful life and was deeply loved. I'm so sorry for your loss.

    Thoughts on upstate academy method?

@muin496 My dog's leash behavior fluctuates between awe-inspiring and "I wish I could pretend this wasn't my dog." He does better, however, when he's getting routine opportunities for interacting with other dogs. You can tell when he's not getting enough chances to socialize because he's just...

We’ve had some serious groomer drama and I’d love your thoughts

@rhoda Why not alternate between the two groomers? Since Groomer 3 is slightly cheaper, you could even consider a shorter cycle between visits. While I'm sure they both appreciate your business, the profit margin for your dog is probably slim and the difficulty level is high.

I don’t know what to do at this point

@sally_wheeler Do you have a friend whose dog has excellent leash manners? Dogs have certain instincts about how to communicate via body language, but they can't polish those instincts without interacting with older dogs. Since your dog is only 6 months old and is good when she's off-leash...

Dog-reactive in limited situations, when stationary

@niveuscurrus I personally would just give up on Scenario 2 ever improving; you're asking a lot of a dog that has a large personal space bubble. As for scenario 1, I would keep at it. It sounds like it should be enough space for her to eventually remain comfortable/untriggered while other dogs...

    I can’t do this anymore

@englishreformed That's all you need to think about tonight. Brains turn into lying little gremlins if you feed them after 10pm; tell your intrusive thoughts that if it's true tonight, it'll still be true tomorrow, so save it. I'm sorry this happened; hopefully you'll have more wits about you...
