Question for balanced trainers/trainers who use aversives in their training plan - I have a couple questions! —A +R trainer

@annaliseh To me, the best description of the purpose of FF came from Pat Nolan. The point of FF is to get the dog to understand that the retrieve is for the handler, not the dog. Most retrievers are hard wired to chase and pick up something. It’s the return and give and are the issue.

Question for balanced trainers/trainers who use aversives in their training plan - I have a couple questions! —A +R trainer

@davecb I know dogs that have completed a retriever SH without an e collar. But they weren’t trained 100% R+. You can try to shape train a blind all you want, but at some point the dog won’t sit on a whistle because the factor or bird scent is overwhelming or won’t take a cast for the same...

Is it extreme that I have lost respect for my family member because they use unkind methods to train?

@ashiedu I try to stay in my lane. Unless folks ask for advice, I don’t give it. Family members can deal with their pets, children, spouses in any way they want. Until it crosses abuse. You aren’t describing a situation where they are abusing their dog. But you are describing a dangerous...

    Dogtra 1900S B&L Boost Increment

@randy777 Try 10. If that doesn’t work, do 20. This advice absolutely assumes you have correctly collar conditioned your dog. By this I mean that your dog knows that responding to the command allows escape from collar pressure. So, “come” no response, nick, “come” and the dog comes. The...
