Does anyone have a plan for I they get pulled over by a cop with a human reactive dog in the car?

@ahealingpen I get that they may not want to make the drive, but I do a lot of things I don’t necessarily want to do for my reactive dog, one of which has included driving her to a boarder that was pretty far out of the way. It’s nice of you to offer to pick them up, but I would hope the owners...

Reactive dogs aren’t trying to give you a hard time they’re having a hard time

@ruzou This saying has completely changed my entire view on my dog’s reactivity. I repeat it to myself every single time she has a bad day, big reaction, etc and it changes my thoughts from frustration to empathy. Reframing my mindset has helped our relationship so much!

Urgent advice please! Staying with family and my dog gets triggered by hyper child

@nafis4268 It sucks that the kid can’t listen but as others have said, you need to be the one to do what’s best for everyone in this situation which means dog and kid should not be around each other at all. It’s good that you separated them after the first bite, but you absolutely should’ve kept...

How do you deal with how limited your life is b/c of your dog?

@uoamerica This!!! Once I learned how reactive my rescue pup was, I was super bummed about all the things we wouldn’t be able to do. I sort of had to “break up” with the idea of the dog I wanted and it truly made me love the dog I got more.

    Rescue Dog Board & Train

@fmeekins I’m also a first time dog owner and sent my dog to a board and train - they also had great reviews and i truly didn’t know what else to do at the time so I didn’t give it a second thought. I can tell you from first hand experience that it made my dog worse, particularly the use of...

Does your dog sleep in your bed?

@devinbaker Not related to the original post in any way, but sometimes my dog will be passed out in another room and the second sexytime starts, she just appears and gets all excited like “what game are you guys playing? looks like fun!”

@autumn1123 Ah, I was not aware of that. Thank you for clarifying!

So are we LIMA or are we “bALaNceD”?

@luketbachelder When I first adopted my dog, we worked with a balanced trainer. I did not know the extent of my dog’s issues upon adopting her and he was recommended to us, we didn’t know what else to do, contacted a positive reinforcement trainer who couldn’t get us in for two months, and her...

Rhode Island Dog Owner Beware: K9 Instincts Board-to-Train

@imagebeastmarkbeast Same😞 the one we sent our pup to used both prong and ecollars. These trainers are so manipulative and make it seem like they can “fix” any dog. And a lot of reactive dog owners are desperate so we fall for it. It’s just a recipe for disaster. I can’t even begin to tell you...

Thoughts on e-collar ? (Only on vibration mode) the vet recommended it but I am really reluctant

@p4m3l4 This. We used an ecollar at one point too. My dog’s main trigger is other dogs and if she was already lunging at another dog, NOTHING was going to stop her. She is in such a high arousal state in those situations that I honestly don’t think she even felt a damn thing when I would zap her...

Trainer wants to use prong/e-collar on my dog

@catherinenosleep Yes, exactly! We had a consultation and the trainer basically said he could fix her no problem and seemed so confident about it that I didn’t really think anything of it. I’m so happy you’re continuing with positive reinforcement and wish you the best of luck finding a trainer!

Trainer wants to use prong/e-collar on my dog

@catherinenosleep Hi! We initially worked with a trainer who used those methods and said we needed to be the alpha and I regret it 100%. I wish I never would’ve agreed to it knowing what I know now but I had no idea at the time how detrimental it could be. My dog is a rescue and her reactivity...

Vets should offer a dog acclimatization program for fearful dogs

@txlove Well this is interesting because I just searched my area and the first result was our actual vet yet he has never offered this to us lol
