Will intense hiking training turn my dog into a machine that never stops?

Hello!

My border collie mix is now almost 18 months, which means we can finally ramp up the hike lengths! I have a trip planned for May that involves walking between 4 and 6 hours day for 7 days.

I want to start training now to make sure he’s comfortable with this exercice intensity by then. We’ll do it gradually and I’m confident I can find good programs online.

My worry is to create a dog that after this training will not only be able to easily walk 4 hours a day, but will NEED it. We do 2 hours on average and I’d like it to go back to that after the trip.

Any advice or experience you’d be willing to share?

Thank you!
