When to use a 3 3/4f or 5/8 blade over a comb?

What are the advantages of long blades like 3 3/4 f, 5/8 or 1” blades over a clip on comb? I used to do 90% of my grooms in a length from 10-4f, but at my new shop people actually brush their dogs and would like their hair longer. Are there specific cases when you would use a blade over a guard comb, or vice versa?

@cathya I usually prefer to use my guard combs but I do have a few dogs I use a 3F on just because it leaves a nicer finish. I use my 3 in reverse most of the time though I have a lot of drop coated breeds that like to get a 5 so 3 in reverse gives a much smoother finish at the same length.
