When should you replace your dogs nail clippers? Can you sharpen them?

Ive had my dogs nail clippers for 1.5 years. Never sharpened or anything. Cut nails once a week or once every 2 weeks. When should I replace the clippers? Can I sharpen them or do u just replace them? I dont want to make it uncomfortable for him. He doesnt really care when I cut his nails so it must not be bothering him much right now. Just wondering how to know when they are getting dull or need sharpening/replace.

@thomas15 Yes, you can sharpen them if they were high quality clippers. The cheap ones - just toss them and get a new set.

@thomas15 Once you notice that you aren’t getting a clean cut. Dull blades will pinch the nail first rather than cut right through. Every six months or so is good for us

@thomas15 I did not know this, but looks like you can use a knife sharpener!

@thomas15 One of the signs to know that it;s the right time to sharpen the clippers is to see if it’s getting difficult to clip them in one go.

I actually get all my clippers from Masterclip and they have this clipper servicing facility, So I would usually request them to service my products once a year.

Given that it’s been 1.5 years for you, maybe you should get your clippers cleaned, sharpened and oiled?
