Need Help - Traveling with my Bully

I have a 3 y/o male standard American Bully that weighs 80-85 pounds. I’d love to travel with him for Christmas instead of dropping him off with family locally. We would be going from Los Angeles to Miami, but I’ve had a hard time with travel options. I’m open to plane, train or driving him myself, but that’s the least desirable of the three.

Does anyone have tips on traveling with a large dog by plane or train? Any experiences that you can share?

@new_christian Personally, i wouldn’t fly my large dogs if there is the option of boarding or driving. He will need to be in an airline approved hard side crate and travel in cargo. Even assuming no connections and no delays, traveling in cargo can be dangerous (weather controls have failed) and scary (crate will be handled by strangers in and out of loud and new areas).

I haven’t used a train, have you checked their rules about accepting dogs and if they have any weight or breed limitations?

@kateee71 Agreed. The only flight options I’ve found have been in cargo and I refuse to do that.

I looked into trains, but they all have a 20lb weight limit.
