Need a durable e-collar for dog with itchy ears

My 3 year old pit has pretty bad allergies, which results in an occasional flare-up of very itchy ears (usually only one ear at a time). I have a routine from my vet to manage the actual ear problem, but I like to put him in a cone for a couple of days to keep him from scratching his ear into bloody oblivion. I used the plastic cone from the vet for a while, but he eventually destroyed it by running into things. About a month ago I bought the Contech Pro-Cone Collar, but he has managed to completely rip it apart by continuing to scratch at it in the few times he's worn it. It is coming apart at the seams around the neck, and he has scratched holes in the fabric itself. Is there a more durable version that can survive my destructive dog?

@00_mary I had a comfy cone I used that held up. They're a bit spendy, but well worth it. Your vet can probably prescribe some drops to have on hand whenever he gets a flare up. It's uncommon for it to only affect one ear though. Have the ears been swabbed during a flare? Certain breeds are susceptible to yeast and other bacterial infections.

@otim We went to the vet this morning and got swabbed. They had thought before that the itchy ears were just from allergies, but they did find bacteria and yeast this time. It was in both ears, but one is way worse than the other. We got some ear drops and new ear cleaner, and they already seem to be helping. Thanks for the advice. =)

@00_mary In addition to the cone, you might want to ask your vet if it's okay to give Benadryl with whatever antihistamines he is prescribed. Benadryl will be both an antihistamine and a slight sedative to help him stay calmer about the discomfort. The specialist who operated on my puppy recommended it to help keep her from moving around too much if she was feeling rowdy during recovery.
