14 week old german shepherd X collie won’t sleep

@greenracoon505 When my pup was little, nap time was in her covered crate, in a dark room. I'd lie down beside the crate until she was asleep (usually fast, but not always) and then sneak out of the room and close the door. I'd give her up to five minutes if she woke up and cried; if she didn't...

14 week old german shepherd X collie won’t sleep

@readyforwhatcomes Running a six month old five miles is a lot and really increases their chances for arthritis and other joint problems (and I really hope his parents were OFA tested and passed.) I say this as someone who also has a high strung high energy herding breed. I know it's a lot and...

    active/sport wet food options

@rubberrodent I don't know if they have wet food, but I believe Eukanaba is a sports food, so you could look into them.

    Golden Retriever or Australian Shepherd?

@eatsomegrub If you want more energy drive from a dog after owning a golden retriever, then yeah it might be. If you're really happy with a golden, I'd recommend getting a similar second dog.

    doodle studs and furnishing genes

@william3 But why not just select for and breed the furnishing gene consistently instead of breeding back to poodles for the F2? It's a gene you can test for, so that's literally a zero-risk strategy and it would, if coordinated across breeders enough generations, result in development of an...

Rant: doodles are making me want to quit dog grooming

@creativechris Yeah I live in a very high cost of living city but my 30 lb double coated, never matted pup costs more than $115 for a bath, deshed, sanitary trim, line trim, and nail clip. And she's easy and really only goes in to keep her coat as light as possible in the summer. Those prices...

Mom is thinking about getting a b*rk d*terrent and my entire family is against me

@georgia56 You might need to start with her further away from her triggers and reward her for noticing and not barking before she gets worked up enough to bark.

Mom is thinking about getting a b*rk d*terrent and my entire family is against me

@georgia56 Can you start taking her for walks and working on desensitization (rewarding her for quiet?)

Mom is thinking about getting a b*rk d*terrent and my entire family is against me

@georgia56 I would not get a puppy if your entire family is struggling to take care of one dog properly. I'm sorry but it doesn't sound like you're in a good place to get one right now.

Food recommendations for a complex situation?

@adebamigbe My recommendation was going to be the purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach salmon flavor - but if that doesn't work, either hill's insect, a prescription diet, or work with a vet nutritionist to make at home.

    Hydrolized Dog Food

@fhf1 You can always work with a vet nutritionist to develop a recipe for your dog and make your dog's food at home. It sounds like you would be a good candidate for this approach.
