    Recall training methods

@imagebeastmarkbeast All due respect but I would still disagree that a collar exists that will stop a Jag once it’s gone off. Have you ever worked one? But yes that is the entire point and I think the biggest issue is people don’t read their dogs well. Timing is EVERYTHING. I could easily...

    Recall training methods

@imagebeastmarkbeast There is no stim hot enough for some dogs. One of my breeds of choice is the Jagdterrier. They have no self preservation, feel no pain and will happily die once they are in kill mode. I’ve seen dogs with half their face missing smiling and wagging their tails. So dogs...

    Recall training methods

@vdenni Doberman are pretty easy to train for a reliable recall but to your point the only way to proof it is with prey. I’ve had Dobes my whole life. Many years and Doberman ago I thought I had 100% reliability on recall. Then I was hacking my horse with that dog, like we did every single day...

Is it normal for a prospective pup purchaser to ask to speak to the breeders vet?

@home4good My breeder in Canada refuses to chip and still tattoos her pups. My European import had to be chipped. We are super lax about this stuff in NA.

For those on a budget, what dna test do y’all choose?

@marinaamz29 That doesn’t sound like a reason to breed him. The pup I have sitting beside me is well bred. She was many thousands of dollars. She is beautiful. She has a lovely temperament. She comes from thoroughly health tested and titled lines. Even if I didn’t sign a lengthy contract that...

For those on a budget, what dna test do y’all choose?

@marinaamz29 What makes you think you have a dog worth breeding? How old is it? Where did you get it? Did you sign a non breeding agreement? Why do you think you should even consider doing this? Look up OFA testing and what is recommended for the breed.

    Excessive panting and whining

@b%E1%BA%A1ch4506 One of my contracts states dog will be kept intact at least until growth plates are closed etc. For the health and longevity of the dog would be the overwhelming reason. We spay/neuter because we have an excess of dogs, not because it’s what is best for the dog.

    @godsgrace59 So frustrating.

    Excessive panting and whining

@tekela Consider yourself lucky. My male drives me insane. I wish it were just some whining he screams, he yells, he tries to dig out of his crate…it’s about 2 weeks of total madness with mild madness on either side. I’m not at all shaming you for having intact dogs, I also have intact dogs. I...

For those on a budget, what dna test do y’all choose?

@godsgrace59 I see they have the stud not the bitch so my questions are slightly inaccurate but the point stands! I didn’t read the entire post before commenting. Stinks of BYB to me!

    Excessive panting and whining

@tekela Separate them. My intact male tries to break down/eat thru doors when my bitch is in heat. At the peak he stops eating. They are in separate ends of the house. You really want to assume he will never figure it out??

For those on a budget, what dna test do y’all choose?

@marinaamz29 If you can’t afford to get the Embark test how do you propose to afford the rest of this proposition? What about health testing? Campaigning your dog to obtain titles? Vet appointments? Stud? Feeding puppies 8 weeks? The Embark is a drop in the bucket unless you are a BYB and...

My male dog won’t breed with my female

I can’t edit on this but wanted to add you need to remember the Jagdterrier isn’t a ratter. They certainly can be but they were bred to hunt bear, bore etc. They can do upland bird, water fowl, blood track and I’ve the seen them used on big cats. That unique skill set is what makes them a...

My male dog won’t breed with my female

@mimi94 They are amazing dogs however they are a FULL TIME job! I’ve also owned Wire Fox Terrier, currently have a Mountain Cur/Rat Terrier cross too. Easy dogs in comparison. Jags make other high drive breeds appear lazy. They have zero self preservation and truly bottomless drive. You...

My male dog won’t breed with my female

@justdana I wish I had that problem. My Dobe pup is in her first heat and my 2yo Jagdterrier is driving me CRAZY!! Not trying to make Jagermans much to his dismay. I do not and will never breed any of my dogs. Leave that to the experts. Mine are intact for health reasons. I suggest you...
