    No barking?

@jluponeage Mine barked less after we moved and he was stressed about the new home. It may come out in yours eventually too! IMO, barking is the biggest challenge of my dog.

My vet wants to charge $700 to get my puppy neutered, is that normal?

@tarper Canadian here. It was $650-800 in my three quotes. Even the low-cost clinic was $450 and a 2 hour drive plus missed day of work, so it wasn't worth it. I didn't get any extras for my $650. Seeing other vets, they all wanted an exam first which upped their price. I felt it was super high...

    Prey drive

@ever0739 I was going to give some younger dog training tips, but so far these gifts don't sound too bad. I had mine on a farm and it was definitely challenging keeping him from ALL the animals (he can't tell which are friends!) Mine saw a rabbit on our yard two days ago. He's been on high...

Niece wants to go on vacation for 3 days and leave dogs in a crate

@lilchan92 I've been building up, and my pup is overnight at the kennel next week for 2 nights! I think he's going to be a little stressed, but also have fun.

Niece wants to go on vacation for 3 days and leave dogs in a crate

@patricia1213 Completely not okay. She needs to find someone they can stay with or pay for them to go to a kennel. They're still going to need at least two walks a day, 4 -- more like 7 for the young one -- bathroom breaks a day, meals, cuddles, mental activities, and play. And to not be...

    Advice/encouragement on adopting senior ACD

@trying1tohelp1 Can you afford a dog walker or have a friend help when you're unable? Great. Can you play games and do tricks instead of walking? You bet. I came into a relationship with a guy with a senior dog, and we're losing her soon. It's not even my dog and I haven't known her THAT long...

Niece wants to go on vacation for 3 days and leave dogs in a crate

@plans4good Actually, not a bad plan lol I was thinking of the leaving of money as an opportunity to highlight the risks.

    Quirks

@dlyssesuouglas When he gets zoomy on a walk, I bring him in, have him sit, hand gesture and say "calm it down," and he always makes a huffing noise at me like, "fine, then. You're no fun!" Mine is not a chewer at all -- still has most of his baby toys!

Considering getting a blue heeler, but I’m not sure if we’d be a good fit

@aristilis My ACD is roping me into shape, so I beg to differ. He IS me hobby and we spend at least 2 hours a day active, but no regrets. Best coach there is. Omg he was so sassy today on say 2 of 3 cold snap because he hasn't had enough!

Will my life suit a cattle dog?

@rainbowdreamer Well, you've listed a couple of considerations: 1) is it sociable. if it burns the bridge with the colleagues dogs, what else can you do? 2) separation anxiety is a thing, and can be bad since they're so darned smart and sometimes are velcro dogs. How can you set him up for...

Niece wants to go on vacation for 3 days and leave dogs in a crate

@patricia1213 Thank you for trying so hard for them, however it winds up.

Niece wants to go on vacation for 3 days and leave dogs in a crate

@patricia1213 Can you get the other potential family visitor on board and both bail on her? I'd remind her that she should leave a credit card with the dogs for veterinary or cleaning emergencies because they're going to be unattended so long.

    Long Line Leash - 3/8” or 1/2”?

@allmighty1 I bought a horse lunge line because it was cheap.

Second ACD- those who have two

@rushamania I would not get another ACD, but another pup is an option, maybe something mixed or more mellow. If you can avoid a puppy, do -- you're already not getting enough sleep and puppies are hard. Not as hard as babies, but harddd. Do you have any dog friends that could stay for a couple...

Considering getting a blue heeler, but I’m not sure if we’d be a good fit

@soulknight Lately when I say "game over, in the car," he launches into this melodrama of dropping the balls and pouncing on them. Absolutely stalling for time.

    Considering an ACD

@renie It sounds like you can handle this. (it's also a great idea with these smart velcro dogs to make time to leave them home alone more often than once a week -- separation anxiety is a very real fear of mine, having been there once!)

@soulknight Invent games. Ong that's it. The rules of fetch keep changing!!

    My boyfriend’s dog bit me

@basefan Giant red flags. What partner goes to get a dog without the other's consent? Let alone a large, unknown bulldog (not hate on bullies, but he knew you weren't looking for that) There is zero respect for you or the outcomes of this dog on your boyfriend's part. I've been there. He...

6 month old puppy OBSESSED with our cat. I’m feeling defeated

@isoloen I was using it to hopefully control his need to chase chickens. Once you've explored it for fun, there's ways to use it for training commands (youtube some)

    Puppy REFUSES to pee outside

@4theloveofgod1 Put her on a house lead attached to you, and go out between every single activity.
