Hi! I’m hoping to get some judgement-free assistance regarding getting a puppy from a breeder for the first time

@esmerelda Ye, they exploded. Demand went so high. The sad thing is, that demand has dropped now and those dogs are being surrendered.

Hi! I’m hoping to get some judgement-free assistance regarding getting a puppy from a breeder for the first time

@chpjoe I’ve been involved in dogs for 30 years and the only dogs I have heard of that have been sold for that price are pups from international champions in multiple countries. That’s insane money. I used to show Daschunds about a decade ago. Never bred them but I know that pups go for...

Advice appreciated regarding a puppy contract

@fallingjerichotm Ye, stud for second pick is totally normal. Normally if another breeder has a suitable buyer, they just pass the persons details on. The stud owner selling is so odd to me.

Advice appreciated regarding a puppy contract

@marianabee I empathise with your disappointment. The excitement of a pup on the way is amazing. It’s the reason we don’t sell them until their a few weeks old. It’s too risky. There could be anything going on behind the scenes but it’s probably best for your own sanity to just walk away...

Advice appreciated regarding a puppy contract

@marianabee If you’re getting your money back then just take it and walk away. I’ve realised I didn’t answer your questions. The owner of the female owns the pups. They have full rights to keep them. Really depends on the law where you live and if any money has been exchanged on their side but...

Advice appreciated regarding a puppy contract

@marianabee Sounds like you have been scammed because the owner of the stud selling the pups is one of the most unusual things I have ever heard. They have zero rights to the pups. They won’t win in court, unless they had an ironclad legal document. Also, you don’t sell pups before you have...

Resources for dog owner who wants to stud (in the U.K.)

@samuelh24 Males are always ready. Females have seasons where they can mate. Your dog would do the business and leave. You are probably best actually attending a show and meeting someone with Scotties that breeds. You have a fair bit to learn and a lot of these people aren’t all that instagram...

I suspect that a person has plans unethical breeding - what to do? [UK]

@geoff58 That’s awful. There are a few problems. Licensed Breeders are defined as: -run a business that breeds and advertises dogs for sale -breed 3 or more litters in a year and sell any of the puppies. So he doesn’t need a licence. So that’s a dead end. There isn’t much you can do other...

Resources for dog owner who wants to stud (in the U.K.)

@samuelh24 The owner of the bitch, although not always but in your case definitely the owner. Depends on the breed. Usually first pick and €500 depending on the breed and usually only if successful. No pup, no pay. Again depending on the dog. It depends on a number of things. Do you have a...

    Tips for a budding breeder

@eee27 Dad shows dogs so I was born into it. First show at 6 weeks old. Delivered my first litter when I was 15. Steady income? Never. Steady customers that we sell to? Decades. We have families coming back now after years of owning one of our dogs. That they devour the placenta and it’s...
