Legitimate Q.. how do people take dogs for a walk and keep their home clean?

@celtish I’m the same, mine get a full on bath like 3-4x a year lol. I use dog waterless shampoo, wipes and a good brushing to get dirt off, and I use the hose to wash their feet when it’s muddy. But I have Carolina Dogs which are known to be super clean dogs that self groom like cats and...

Feeling guilty about crating puppy for his 16-18hr sleep time

@happycamper843 Thats all very very normal behavior for his age. I really think that people compare puppies to human babies a little too often. Light sleep is the norm. Think about it- it would be dangerous as hell for a puppy in the wild to sleep too deeply, they would get woken up by being...

    @sheryrits How old is he?

I don’t want to use puppy pads, but I feel I’m left with no choice…

@pandaman Honestly just stick to it, once the association between outside is where they go potty clicks in their heads it changes everything and makes it so much easier. (Then the next step is for them to learn to tell you). My newest pup was potty trained by the breeder to go on pads, and he...

I don’t want to use puppy pads, but I feel I’m left with no choice…

@pandaman Personally I think puppy pads for a large dog just delay potty training (I know some people use them all the time for small ones) and teach them it’s ok to go in the house. A real grass pad is the only thing I would use in your situation, and I would really try to use it sparingly...

Do not use Farmer’s Dog! It can give your dog pancreatitis!

@katherinej Yep. This is why I stick with Purina pro plan/ my dogs are super healthy, great coats, great weight, energy, etc and I feel good because it’s one of the 5 dog foods that meet WSAVA guidelines.

Feeling guilty about crating puppy for his 16-18hr sleep time

@happycamper843 That’s normal though. Dogs aren’t kids- their sleep cycles are different. They are naturally supposed to wake up- my puppy will open her eye or lift her head if us or the cat move around. But since she has been allowed to nap outside her crate always- that’s normal. She will just...

We did! Hallelujah! We SLEPT through the night!

@belarius Under the plastic should help :)) Won’t he super cold, but at least it will be cooler. You can also throw some of his stuffed toys/blanket/whatever you have in there normally in the freezer and take them out to put in the crate at night. It will feel cool for a while at least. And...

Legitimate Q.. how do people take dogs for a walk and keep their home clean?

@lyneth Depends on the size of the dog. I only use a crate for my elderly medium sized dog, she literally can’t sit still in a car , and I put it in the backseat in my sedan just for her (and our) safety. My other three larger ones I buckle into seatbelts and put a harness on them. Obviously I...

We did! Hallelujah! We SLEPT through the night!

@belarius You can get gel mats that freeze for dogs. My puppy is intolerant to heat, so I put one under her bed, or just on the floor and she sleeps like the dead on it lmao. We have AC, she just loves the cold lol. I’d probably put it directly under the plastic of the crate bottom so he...

Legitimate Q.. how do people take dogs for a walk and keep their home clean?

@mooke147 I don’t do much crate training (my puppies were sleeping at night on the floor with the older ones by 4 months or so), and never really used a crate much in the day. So I’m not like many on here that do a ton of crating as a training method. But it is useful to make sure they are ok...

Unexpectedly lost my 2.5 year old dog, I feel so empty

@wini It’s not silly. I lost my 14 year old girl last year, and even though I know I was lucky as hell to have her to that age (she was a big dog), god it hurt. Still does. Took me almost a year to be able to see her pics without crying. I still do sometimes, but I also smile. Losing yours so...

I think my dog is pregnant and I don't know what to do. Plan B?

@whydontwe You have the option of a spay abortion. There is no abortion pill for dogs. And - yes, it would be for shits and giggles. There is no point to you breeding her, you add nothing to the breed itself, you aren’t preserving anything, just adding to the problem. If your friends and...

I think my dog is pregnant and I don't know what to do. Plan B?

@whydontwe There are millions of puppies in the freaking shelter…….why in the world would you add to the problem? You just want to give free puppies away to random people for shits and giggles? You have no concept of your dog would make good breeding stock, or if the pups would be healthy. You...

Feeling guilty about crating puppy for his 16-18hr sleep time

@john146wtl I get that. I really do. Though I do think that if the plan is to crate the puppy 8-10 hrs a day, then another 8 at night, it’s best to get an older puppy or adult dog that won’t need it. There are also alternatives- you can give them a room/pen- so they can play with toys, move...

I think my dog is pregnant and I don't know what to do. Plan B?

@goat No I’m not. All of my previous animals were from the shelter, including my elderly and late dog. But my three young dogs are purebred, a type of breed I’m absolutely in love with. Their type fits with our home, our lifestyle, the type of training I like, etc. I don’t want a pit mix, I...

Feeling guilty about crating puppy for his 16-18hr sleep time

@nicolegriff Thank you for saying this. I am honestly floored how many people on here recommend crating a dog for the majority of the day. I have only ever used it for when I leave the house (I work from home) and at night. Otherwise I’m watching the puppy. It’s crazy hard work the first month-...

I think my dog is pregnant and I don't know what to do. Plan B?

@goat Ethical breeding is absolutely fine, in no way does it ever add to the shelter issues in this country. (And again, I mean true ethical breeding). There are a lot of reasons people want certain breeds. People like OP are why we have millions of dogs in shelters in our country, not ethical...

I think my dog is pregnant and I don't know what to do. Plan B?

@whydontwe Is your dog a show dog? Is it a competition dog? What credentials does your dog have? How many genetic and health testing have you done on the dog? What dog and what credentials would the sire have? If you don’t have all of this, you would be nothing but a backyard breeder, ie...

Where are my shelter puppies at?

@angelnumberthree You should look into Carolina Dogs, they are the US’s only wild dog, they mainly live in the Carolina’s and GA. They are effing AMAZING. My first one was from a shelter in GA. She looks like one and is from the right area- the fishhook tail and eyeliner are an instant tell lol...
