[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@hisinlove My doberman breeder does a litter theme and lets owners pick from a list of names she has selected. She then applies that name to that pups registration. It gives her control and gives the owners a touch of individuality to their dog. It is very normal to have a lot of control over...

[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@needheaven It can be more about how many breeding and fertilization. My first litter from my bitch was 12 puppies. They had one tie. My second litter was frozen semin implanted. She had 5 puppies and never went into labor so we did a c-section. Puppies were overcooked by about a day or two...

[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@hisinlove Plus summer and winter coats are different colors. I never appreciated the color until I got my GSD. Now I love it and love seeing how it is expressed in various breeds and coat types.

[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@hisinlove Wait and see. Agouti can lighten so much. I thought my GSD was going to be darkly sooty at one and he wound up like the sire by the time he was 4.

If a dog is pregnant with only one puppy, is it normal to plan a C-Section?

@azariyah It is common because singletons often become very large. Sometimes they do not stimulate labor as well. You need to have an x-ray done to make sure the puppy can come out. Then, makes sure you known the stages and signs of labor and distress and be ready to section at day 64 if the...

[Help] My 11 year old boxer died and my 8 year old Saint Bernard has had a sudden change in behavior

@rrk93 Dogs mourn and you also have littermate syndrome. It is easy for some dogs to become dependent on another dog for emotional support, stability, and decision making. I have this exact problem right now. 4 years ago one of my Doberman suddenly died and my other one was a complete mess...

[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@imagebeastmarkbeast 12 puppies is more like a single organism. Thankfully, their co-breeder took half at 7 weeks. For the first month they are super easy. Then five weeks hits and the room I had them in had an outside door. I attached a run to that door and then covered the run in tarps so that...

How long to wait between litters?

@thelonemusician28 The research says you do back to back. This was done off of studies of bitches uteruses (I think beagles) after litters and spays and times. Personally, I don't see how someone would do it. I have a 3 week old litter on the ground. I am keeping pups from this as I do each...

Looking for Veterinary advice on the best shampoo for doggos

@dee1720 Bathing a dog is fine. Shampoo and condition, don't just shampoo them and be surprised when the coat dried out. There are plenty of good basic shampoos and conditioners that will cover you. I often suggest mane and tail because it is so mild and does not sting eyes.

[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@hisinlove We didn't know there was 12! We figured 9-10 from the x-rays. Once we where at 11 and she rested and ate, pottied, drank, and calmed down we thought we where done. Then 12. That was a fun litter. I had 6 males and 6 females. And don't get comfortable thinking she'll have medium sized...

[Fluff] My 2nd Kishu Ken Litter Has Arrived!

@hisinlove I got puppy 12 in my first litter six hours after puppy 11. We swore she was done. We had to run out to the store, came back to freshly born puppy 12. These were afghan hounds.

How likely that a reputable breeder missidendifies the breed? Like 0%?

@carlawalker They should. I have photos of every dog I've ever bred and can go in depth discussing them. I consider that the norm. You can always do the breed identification tests. Waiting lists are good things. I may have a litter next year or the year after. I'm open with people about it. I...

How likely that a reputable breeder missidendifies the breed? Like 0%?

@carlawalker A lot of the poodle mixes can be a lot more than what is expected. People slip various breeds in sometimes intentionally or not because unfortunately, a lot of the poo mix is about money. I have Afghan Hounds and I'd never misidentify one. I also discuss things like coat potentials...

@seekingthelord34 Your dog is protesting his schedule change. He is also an adolescent and they are be quite rebellious at this age. Instead of letting commands fail set him up for sucess. Use a leash. Walk him to his crate, treat him, and leave. Your dog is protesting the change and...

Grooming basics for my great pyrenees

@wordcrafter I always trimmed behind the ears. That super fine hair tangles easily, is somewhat moist since it is close to the skin and it hurts to brush it out. A wide tooth comb and I use a shedding rake without blades. Just two rows of straight teeth. It would work so much coat out so fast...

Growth plate development V.S. 26% chance of breast cancer!? When should I spay my female dachshund?

@bellemem Breeders are demonized in a lot of the US at the moment. Even vets sneer at them. But many really care about their dogs and spend a lot of time and energy on health. My breed mentor has been breeding for sixty years. I know my dogs lineage backwards and forwards and generations of...

Growth plate development V.S. 26% chance of breast cancer!? When should I spay my female dachshund?

@bellemem I do not spay my dogs before growth plate closure. I've not yet had a case of breast cancer. 25+ years of dogs and I breed and show so I have had a few more dogs than normal. Talk to your breeder and ask her about longevity in her lines and what dogs passed away from. My experience is...
