If they give me more attitude, I add "Leash laws apply to everyone - including you!" I repeat some combination of these phrases regardless of their excuses...

@cobondservant Coming up on one year since it happened. I've endured several braces, cortisone injections, and physical therapy. I have not had a single pain-free day. I will likely never regain full use of the injured limb. Leash your fucking dog.
