You expect me to believe that dogs are smart when my puppy has zero (0) lifetime wins against me and the leash but tries to pull away 250x each walk?

@jenniferallain Who’s to say I kept walking the same direction? It was just a joke & a vent!

@theory33 It was mostly a joke, but this would be a good clarification to teach him. Right now, to him, every walk is about him and about where he wants to go.

Where my 5 A.M. puppy owners at?

@roboryan 15 months at 6am here. I’ve tried many different things. I give him little to no attention, just let him out and back in and then sit back down. It’s made no impact. I’ve just resigned myself to being tired and unhappy every morning.

“Wake up before your dog, it’ll help them sleep in longer” yeah thanks now he wakes up at 4:45am

@kck It’s in another room… blinds down, door closed always

@feelinbroken That’s the next option after the harness. I’m still in my infancy trying things out.

@katrianna Little late, I don't get on reddit much anymore. He gets 3-4 15-30m walks every day and spends an additional 1-2 hrs outside in a fenced in yard as the weather allows, most of the time he's just free to play with toys on his own or sniff around but I play fetch for about 15-20m. He's...

You expect me to believe that dogs are smart when my puppy has zero (0) lifetime wins against me and the leash but tries to pull away 250x each walk?

@kdbeats_91 I have a freedom no pull harness in the mail as we speak. It’s got the two clips, one in front and one on top. I’ve heard great things… we’ll see how it goes. Just mostly frustrates me because he doesn’t do it whatsoever when we practice inside. Outside, it’s like he’s never seen me...

@amoskaeg I think he gets plenty of exercise. 1x hour long walk/training session/fetch after work, 4x 20 minute walks thru the day (I work from home), and gets some sort of chew or lick mat or kong in the evenings if he’s up for it, but oftentimes isn’t interested in any food since he doesn’t...

“Wake up before your dog, it’ll help them sleep in longer” yeah thanks now he wakes up at 4:45am

@verdanavivian He’s a setter. First meal is anywhere from 7:30-8:30 and last meal is anywhere from 5:30-6:30. Don’t think it’s food related, though, because he very, very rarely eats his meals. Today’s breakfast will sit in the bowl until 2-3pm if I had to wager.

@crusader321 Well, at least it’ll be better while I’ve got the harness on. Right now I can’t really walk him anywhere without it being a massive chore.

You expect me to believe that dogs are smart when my puppy has zero (0) lifetime wins against me and the leash but tries to pull away 250x each walk?

@izzywray Unfortunately he finds the yard to be overstimulating as well. I live behind my parents & he knows that going to their house means more unprotected shit to play with & another dog, so it’s a pull fest to get there too. Of course, I can walk him around inside of their house with no...

You expect me to believe that dogs are smart when my puppy has zero (0) lifetime wins against me and the leash but tries to pull away 250x each walk?

@infinitas1985 Yes I’ve tried to incorporate this, seen it in a few videos. If I can get him to focus, this does work well. I just really struggle to pull his attention from whatever he’s smelling or chasing or seeing. He just lives in his own world and pulls because he doesn’t care about his...

    How does anyone do this?

@bitz I’m nowhere close to there yet, but I had a lot more patience and success when I started forcing him to nap a lot more. He’s up for a couple hours and starts to get too nippy and won’t respond to me? Probably time to put him in a crate and leave the room for a few hours.

“Wake up before your dog, it’ll help them sleep in longer” yeah thanks now he wakes up at 4:45am

I’m so tired of being tired. My dog is 14 months old and he has never made it past 6am, ever. His activity levels and bed time the day before have zero bearing on when he wakes up. We’ve gone on 5+ mile hikes and then stayed up at a friend’s place until 3:30am and he was up for the day at 5:30...

You expect me to believe that dogs are smart when my puppy has zero (0) lifetime wins against me and the leash but tries to pull away 250x each walk?

@nicolek I’ve got a freedom no pull harness on the way… because clearly the leash doesn’t work. He’s literally glued to my hip, checking in with me every 4 steps when we practice inside. And then we go outside and he thinks he’s on a dog sled team.

YOU HAVE NEVER WON. LITERALLY NEVER. THE LEASH HAS PULLED YOU BACK EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. WHY CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE NOT STRONGER THAN THE LEASH.
